Commemoration of Allama Iqbal’s death anniversary at the Department of Gender Studies

The Department of Gender Studies, University of the Punjab, commemorated the death anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal by organizing a Guest Lecture and Debate Competition on April 21, 2026, at the Seminar Hall of Department of Gender Studies. The proceedings were presided over by Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar (Chairperson, DGS) and guest of honor was Prof. Dr. Baseera Ambreen (former director Iqbal Academy). Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar delivered the welcome note and appreciated the efforts of the Literary Society in fostering critical thinking and intellectual engagement among students. She emphasized on the importance of Allama Iqbal’s message for the youth to realize their true potential and recognize their Khudi. The event featured a debate competition on the theme of Iqbal’s concept of Khudi and its relevance in the contemporary era. Students presented thoughtful and engaging speeches, reflecting a deep understanding of Iqbal’s philosophy and its application to present-day challenges. The Guest of Honor, Prof. Dr. Baseera Ambreen, delivered an insightful lecture. She emphasized the importance of mastering the art of debating, encouraging students to develop clarity of thought and expression. She also highlighted the significance of understanding and accurately reciting Iqbal’s poetry as a means of connecting with his philosophical vision. She announced the results of the debate competition as well. Samar Abbas stood first, Kaleem Ullah and Aima Farooq secured second and third positions respectively. The event was arranged by Dr. Ambreen Salahuddin (In-charge) and Dr. Nudrat Kamal (Co In-charge) of Literary Society. The program was moderated by Inaam Ul Haq and Fahad Abid (members, literary society). Muhammad Zeeshan recited Qur’anic verses and Ambreen Sadaf sang Kalam e Iqbal.
